Music magazine: Photography

I edited this one by enhancing the highlights this made the leaves around her
look bright and the edges dark, this draws our eyes towards her. I think I will use
this one for my double page spread.

I edited this photo to black and white, I think this will be a great one
for my cover because of the
direct address that she is giving out.

Even though this is a really nice photo I don't think I will use it for my
front cover because she is not giving direct address.

Original cover photo.

I took a number of photos of my friend looking glamourous with her hair and makeup done nicely. This made her look like a famous artist and also linked well with my genre of music and I believe this will attract my target audience.

Music Magazines: Flatplans

Front cover flat plans
Contents page flat plans

Double page spread flat plans

These are my flat plans for my media magazine. I designed them on Indesign and used typical pop magazine convents such as puffs and banners to make it appeal to my target audience.

Music Magazine: Project Proposal

Who are you aiming your magazine at specifically?
I will be aiming my magazine at females ages 15-18 who are interested in mainstream music.

What will your magazine be about?
My magazine is all about Chart/pop music. It will feature things such as interviews with artists, information on festivals/ concerts and posters, these will all be appropriate to my target audience and will hopefully appeal to potential buyers.

What are your ideas for cover lines?
Cover lines need to draw in my target audience. I would possibly have some for example like 'all about Adele' and 'Win VIP tickets for Rihanna's new tour' this will give potential buyers of an idea of what's inside and by using things such as alliteration it makes them catchy, drawing people in.

What title have you decided and why?
I have decided to call my music magazine 'Play' its simple and easy to say, whilst also linking to music. I understand that it has many connotations but I have had the idea to maybe make a logo or mast head which looks like a play button on a stereo or Ipod making it clear that my magazine is all about music.

What fonts do you want to use?
I want my fonts on my front cover to be easily readable, so I wont be using anything too fancy. However for my double page spread article I may use fonts such as 'Calibri' because there simple but stylish. I may also use block capitals on my front cover so it is easily seen.

What are your ideas for tag lines?
I haven't decided whether to have a tagline because sometimes they look tacky.

When will it be published and how frequently?
I will hopefully have the first issue out by summer because the whether is hot and people sunbathe in their gardens and at the beach meaning magazine sales sore, this will give my magazine a good head start. It will be published monthly and it theme will go with the seasons to attract potential buyers.

What will the cover image be and how will you go about getting this image?
The cover image will be of a female looking glamorous with her hair and make-up done nicely. I will take this photo myself and try my hardest to make her look like a famous artist such as Adele or Rihanna.

What is your colour scheme?
My colour scheme has to appeal to my target audience so I will be using very girly colours such as pink and purple but maybe also use white to lighten it up a bit and make the magazine look sophisticated.

How much will it sell for?
I will sell my music magazine for £2.00 because it will be quite a big magazine however because its just starting it wont be as popular as music magazines like 'NME' which sells for £2.40. I believe this is an realistic price and isn't too much to pay for a magazine which is published monthly.

Music Magazine- Target audience

The genre of my music magazine will be chart/pop music, which appeals to mass audience rather then a niche audience who like more alternative music genres. My music magazine will be targeted at teenage girls from ages 15-18 who listen to chart music because this suits the genre of my music magazine because young adults usually listen to more chart music. I think that by mainly having my audience at young females it will be an advantage because magazines such as 'NME' are mainly targeted a males and the magazine 'Q' is targeted at a more mature audience.
I have chosen this target audience because I can easily relate to it because I am a female aged 16 that listens to chart music. I particularly know what girls my age would want a chart/pop music magazine to feature, as well as what they're into at the moment. However I am going to hand out a questionnaire to get further information on this. If I chose a different target audience such as older males I wouldn't be able to relate at all meaning the magazine would not appeal to the target audience, meaning it wouldn't sell very well.

I did some research and then presented it on a PowerPoint presentation to make it look attractive. I uploaded it to Slideshare and then copied the HTML so I could place it onto my blog.

Music magazine: Inspiration- Adele

When choosing who to base my music magazine on, I wanted someone who was a dominant female figure in the music industry. I wanted them to be successful and well known but also a good role model. I decided on Adele. Adele Adkins (mainly known as Adele) is an English singer-songwriter. After a friend posted her demo's on Myspace she was then offered a recording contract by XL recordings.  Adele has been really successful and in 2007 she won the British Awards 'critics choice' and then the next year won BBC sound of the year. Her album 19, released in 2008 was a success with it certified four times platinum in the UK and her next album 21, released in 2011 and has been certified 14 times platinum in the UK. In the US the album became the longest album to hold its position since 1998. Adele has been nominated for 6 grammy awards.
Record of the year- 'Rolling in the deep'
Song of the year- 'Rolling in the deep'
Album of the year- 21
Best Pop solo performance- 'Someone Like You'
Best Pop Vocal album- 21
Best short form music video- 'Rolling the the deep'

Here is one of her music videos of her song 'Rolling in the deep' which is nominated for many awards. It has received 201,261, 631 views on YouTube beating Beyonce's recent video 'Love on top'. This is just one example of how successful she is and shows you why she is on many music magazines today.
